2024 NATIONAL PIANO GUILD AUDITIONS AND MEMBERSHIP

From the Piano Guild Headquarters in Austin, TX - "Our primary function is to establish definite goals and awards--in noncompetitive auditions--for students of all levels. Teachers have the flexibility to choose all repertoire for student auditions. Students are judged on individual merit, by a well-qualified music professional, in the areas of accuracy, continuity, phrasing, pedaling, dynamics, rhythm, tempo, tone, interpretation, style, and technique. Our purpose is to encourage growth and enjoyment through the study of piano."

Taking part in Guild does not require any extra time or practice on the part of students. Teachers will help the entire class prepare at least 1 song from their current repertoire that they can memorize as a group and play for each other during their normal class time. Even if some classmates opt out of signing up, they will still reap the benefits of perfecting a piece of music from their lesson books!

Those who do sign up for Guild are given the opportunity to take part in one of hundreds of auditions that are held in over 850 cities and several foreign countries. Students are adjudicated by an international panel of judges and receive report cards, certificates, and fraternity pins. Programs are diversified to meet the needs of both students and teachers. Programs are flexible and include repertoire as well as technical goals (musicianship phases). A variety of programs are available in which students can enroll.

  • The cost is $49 per student. Payment must be made online at the time of registration in order to secure your slot. NATIONAL PIANO GUILD DOES NOT OFFER SIBLING DISCOUNTS (their policy, not ours!). Please note your child must be in Faber level 2B or above to participate.

  • Teachers will help the students pick the songs. (2 is the minimum and 4 is the maximum.) These are usually selected from the student’s book from class.

    • All songs must be memorized and sheet music is not allowed.

    • Don’t forget to include your scales! (Please ask your teacher for the appropriate scale for your child’s skill level.)

  • The students always pass! They will receive a certificate, a pin, and a report card. When the student has been in Guild for 5 years, they get a special personalized trophy from WSM! The judge is a teacher who is kind and encouraging. The purpose of the Guild is to encourage and support the parents and teachers in motivating the students toward goal setting and continued growth.
